Review on πŸ”₯ Epiphany Outdoor Gear Pocket Bellows: Your Essential Weatherproof Fire-Starting Tool for Camping by Robin Naber

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not a requirement, but a great way to improve the ignition efficiency of wet materials.

Used 6-8 times. The device is still in good condition. I oil mine with gun oil every time I oil my knives, axes, and other gear. Some lubrication is required to prevent seizure. Although not necessary for an experienced person working in the woods, it is a fantastic tool for reducing the time it takes to start a fire when it is wet. For beginners, this can very well be the difference between success and failure. It's small enough to be a throwaway tool, which is important for those of us who want versatility. The pocket fur also provides some distance between you and the burn, reducing irritation. After a few days in the bush I found that my nose and lungs were really starting to get sensitive. We all know that fire engines need some personal time with flames, fuel and embers in wet areas unless enough boosters are used. This tool literally gives you a little more breathing room. I recently used it in the state forest after a long rainy season. There was no dry tinder except bare twigs, and no dry kindling. Using oily wood and jute from my own fireplace, I was able to light a small bundle of tinder. While lighting the embers with wet kindling, I expanded the pocket bellows and began to slowly inflate the base. Within 5-10 minutes and patience I increased the size of my coals and reached the critical temperature to start consuming wet kindling. I ended up with a good fire in an area that had rainy days.
