Although not thick, they are not meant to be thick. I then find PERFECT, healthy, everyday dishes. They are from Japan and are of excellent quality in terms of design and small dinnerware set at a reasonable price. I cook a lot of Japanese food and needed this size. There are "Japanese" plates in cyberspace, but I believe that these genuine Japanese plates from SAIKAI are artistically superior to the fake plates. This is functional porcelain.
