Review on Thermal mug EMSA Travel Mug, 0.36 l, black by Ada Szwed ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Completely standard product, nothing remarkable.

The mug is well thought out. But in fact, when there is something to compare with, then this comparison is not in favor of Emsa. I think that thermos mugs with a flip cap on a safety button (such as, for example, Zojirushi of the SM-KC, SM-SD, SM-YAF series, or Thermos of the JNL series) are much better. Firstly, because it is a much more hygienic solution - after all, the drinker itself is protected from dust, insects and dirty hands. Secondly, such thermoses are much more convenient to open and close with one hand, which is very important, say, when driving. Yes, you can rightly argue that the same Zojirushi cost 3 times more, but in fact, for some reason, such a crazy situation is only on the 2022 market. In foreign online stores that Emsa, that Zojirushi, that Thermos of the mentioned series cost about the same - around $ 25-30. And since all of them can be ordered at about the same price, then what's the point of buying not the best mug? In general, based on the not very successful experience of using Emsa, now I still decided to buy myself another, more thoughtful mug from among the above.

Pros
  • - Holds temperature very well. And so much so that if you poured boiling water, then in the first hours you will not be able to drink from it. So you need to immediately get used to slightly diluting drinks when pouring; - Does not flow; - Collapsible lid, you can wash the insides. - It is convenient that you can drink from any side. But this design also has disadvantages (more on them below);
Cons
  • In fact, there are not so few of them: - Open edge of the drinker. Yes, it seems to be convenient that you can take a sip from any side, but in fact, all this is terribly unhygienic: when you walk around with a mug all day long, constantly turning it in your hands, you somehow still touch the lid with dirty fingers, it flies under the rim all dust and dirt. In the city, this drawback may not be so noticeable, but in nature or in field conditions it begins to strain. Either some kind of needle will stick, then some other garbage; - Inconvenient lock button. Due to the location, it is difficult for her to use one hand. When you try to press it with the finger of the same hand in which you hold the mug, then in any case you have to grab the lid from above with the whole brush (well, that is, touch with unwashed hands exactly the place where you need to sip). It turns out that in order to press the button without touching the rim, you either need to do it with your second hand, or put the mug on the table altogether, and then press the button. Terribly uncomfortable, in general. This is definitely not a mug for those whose work is associated with manual labor and dirty processes. For example, I can’t imagine how to drink from it during repairs, when my hands are all stained, and cement dust settles everywhere. In short, the natural habitat of this mug is a clean office desk, or a bedside table in the bedroom, but nothing more; - Sometimes, when the mug is almost full and the drink is still very hot, the button is hard to press. Possibly due to excess steam pressure from the inside; - If the drink is sweet, then sticky traces remain outside, which again attracts dust, fluff and insects. We had a real case when a wasp climbed under the rim of the drinker, and this was not visible from the outside. My girlfriend had already raised the mug to her mouth and was about to take a sip when the wasp suddenly crawled out, and pure luck that it didn’t bite her on the lip!;
