The noise-cancelling earbuds mute ambient noise than my previous earbud, but if you're trying to pick up traffic and updates during ICS, it's great. I have broadcast information broadcast over the radio enough times to receive it, but no one else has. It doesn't clean the scanner, but it's light enough to carry around in a backpack. Don't forget to blow out the transparent part, because if moisture accumulates in it, everything will sound like underwater. Last but not least, keeping the conversations private and in your own ear, rather than having prying ears, makes getting changed at the graveyard a lot easier. Being able to walk silently down the freeway and still be able to pick up radio communications earned me some nasty nicknames from the prisoners. In general I highly recommend it.
