Very good cable but doesn't work with Thunderbolt displays

These are VERY high quality cables. Strong connection. However, this does not work when connected to older Apple Thunderbolt displays. I have a display connected to a MiniDisplayport to USBC converter, then an extension cable is connected to that converter. No matter how many times you flip or reconnect the cable, you either get no picture at all or it flickers.
