Review on The Official ROXANT PRO Camera Stabilizer: GoPro, Smartphone, Canon, Nikon - Up to 2.1 lbs. (Includes Phone Clamp) by Christopher Wells

Great budget alternative but probably not for camcorders, only DSLRs

I'm using a Canon XA10 compact HD camcorder. I wanted a gimbal/stabilizer for it, but the one Canon made for it costs $165. I'm just an amateur videographer for beginners so I can't justify the price. This is a great alternative. The Canon XA10 weighs 1lb 6oz without the optional grip and 1lb 12oz with it. Thus, each of the configurations corresponds to the weight limit of this stabilizer bar. I have never used such equipment before so the video tutorials on understanding how to balance the camera on it were extremely helpful. The stabilizer makes a well-made and high-quality impression. I'm only deducting one star because I think this gimbal might not be suitable for camcorders, only DSLRs, point and shoot cameras and action cameras like GoPro, not "any camera under 2.1lb "I didn't get perfect balance. I know it takes some practice, but I was close to balancing it and I felt like I had to do it. But I could never understand it. I guess this is because the camcorder's weight is distributed differently than the DSLR it's primarily intended for. The DSLR has a blockier profile and most of the weight is more centralized. The camcorder is longer and the weight is fairly even distributed over its length. And while there will be a balance point somewhere (as with all objects), the weight doesn't depend on that point. I think that's preventing me from trying to get it as close to perfect balance as possible. Due of the Pr Given the difference between this and what's made for my camera, I want to keep working with it and see if I can handle it, but I don't have high hopes. I did a test shot with it balanced as accurately as possible and it really improved the smoothness of my video, but its balance is so unreliable that I find I always have to shoot with two hands to keep it from spinning . .

Pros
  • Great for independent filmmakers looking to take their movies to the next level! Capture smooth motion in tight spaces, on stairs, in crowds, cars, walking/running/skating, etc.
