Review on πŸ”Œ StarTech.com Black DVI-D to VGA Active Adapter Converter Cable - Upgrade to 1080p, DVI to VGA Converter Box (DVI2VGAE) by Anthony Mayes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An open green tint makes the converter almost unusable.

Although the refresh rate is good and the converter works even without electricity, the picture is a little washed out and the worst thing is that the converter gives the picture a green tint that you really only see in grays and blacks. I hooked it up to both my TV and monitor and both showed a distinct green cast that can't be corrected no matter what settings I change. The graphics card I hooked it up to is literally brand new out of the box about an hour ago. This is not a malfunction as the HDMI connector outputs the correct color image. I can't verify the display ports, but considering the HDMI display isn't causing any issues and both displays are tinted green, there's no other possibility than an adapter issue. I directly discuss the problem of returning the adapter given the green color. The tint is totally unavoidable as my desktop background is almost entirely grey. If you're getting this and have a particular focus on picture quality, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere or even buying a newer display. The problems you'll encounter when trying to convert a DVI-D signal to an analog VGA signal aren't worth the mess, in my experience.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Solid cable, does not feel cheap.
