Review on πŸ‘œ Compact and Durable: Domke F-6 Little Bit Smaller Ruggedwear Bag” by James Small

Great everyday bag: Bags & Cases

I've been using this bag for about six months now and I still love it. It's exactly the same as the other Domke F-6 Little Bit Smaller Bag (Sand) except for the finish, so check out the reviews for that one too. The ruggedwear finish is dark brown and doesn't feel waxy or oily. and doesn't smell. The bag isn't weatherproof, but I was carrying my gear on a mile hike through a snow storm when the buses stopped and everything was dry inside. I can't tell if it differs from the regular Domkes canvas, but that's enough for me. Overall I like the Ruggedwear trim but I probably wouldn't have missed it if I didn't have it. This is a conscious design choice: more padding affects how the bag folds and carries, as well as the accessibility of the gear inside. Domkes are designed for photographers who need such a bag. The style is either totally wrong or totally right for you depending on what you need, but that's not an inherently flawed style. I'm carrying around a 40D with a grip, flash, multiple small/medium lenses and way too many accessories and cables. this bag. This isn't a bag to carry everything you have when you have a lot of them, but it really is a versatile everyday bag. The balance is perfect and the strap keeps it in place while walking. The clips on the lid are difficult to use at first, but they loosen up a bit and I like the extra security their strength gives me. This is a good, durable bag. I love mine and would buy it or any other Domke again without hesitation. Update August 2013: Three years later I still use it as an everyday bag and everything I wrote above still applies. The bag is often used outdoors as I mostly shoot bugs and it doesn't really carry much. It's actually a great work bag for a bug photographer, as it fits my entire macro rig assembly - although it fits better without a flash - and the rest of the gear I usually need when I'm shooting.
