Fantastic bright well made little headlights

Before ordering this product I had read a lot of negative reviews about complaints about water getting into these headlights, especially on boat trailers as they sometimes get back in the water have to unload their boats. All of the other reviews seemed impressed with the brightness, so I immediately removed the rubber sleeve from one of the amber ones and noticed that the amber material itself is a one-piece, seamless cast, which is great. On the back of the casting (where the electronics go), this entire area was completely filled with resin, so I knew this wouldn't be a problem. Then I noticed that the only thing sticking out of the resin were two wires that were inside a piece of heat shrink tubing. Oddly enough, the shrink tubing didn't sit on top of the wires. So I decided to test my theory that the water intrusion was because the heat shrink basically acted like a straw around the wires, allowing the water to bypass the resin and seep straight into the electronics, causing the all electronics have been subverted. other well-designed components, and yes, as soon as I submerged it in water the problem became apparent. Since I held the heatshrink over the water no water got in, as soon as I submerged the entire open end of the heatshrink in water the entire light filled with water and ruined it. So the repair is very easy, I filled the exposed portion of the heat shrink with elastomeric sealant, then used a heat gun and heated the heat shrink, and voila! Perfect print. Now full immersion and no problems. I then tested the lamp on my desktop power supply and checked the voltage from 6V to 14.4V. The light didn't work until about 9V, then it stopped getting brighter at about 12.5V, although at 14, 4V worked fine. However, to keep the LEDs from failing prematurely, I installed an H5K2 mini 360 buck converter (step-down module) to limit the current from my RV to exactly 12V. This ensures that the LEDs have a long, long lifespan. You will never experience power surges or constant high voltages affecting the electronics. * I'm an electronics engineer so I hope I haven't lost anyone and that this helps some of you * Anyway, thanks for an overall good product at a great price!
