I came across this product while looking for a lightweight, compact, unobtrusive camera mount and some accessories. It is well designed and not flimsy. The handles are well designed. Three of the holes in each section are tapped (two 1/4-20 and one 3/8"), but they're painted over, so the threads aren't clean. Painting the threads doesn't make tightening impossible, but I do bought a 1/4-20 tap to clean up the tracks for smoother threading in. This allows me to place my right hand on the vertical handle, my left hand supports my right hand and stands for the manual focus adjustment and stock post available below is on my armpit Flashlight shape: this works well when the DSLR is balanced on the mount Shoulder rest: this doesn't work because the bar is too tight and uncomfortable on the shoulder, and without counterweights for balance and even with the attachment a vertical grip is useless for stabilizing DSLR video footage #7: You need a steely hand to hold the DSLR, or a few months if you're holding a DSLR like this n, you will get one. What this article might work better with is a cell phone or very light camera rather than a DSLR. Square, I can place the Zoom H1 on it with the Giottos mini ball head and I can hold the installation to the right and left of the phone. An additional vertical grip on the bottom (or placed horizontally on top) provides extra grip for balanced one-handed operation, rather than an unbalanced one-handed hold on the right or left. A coin is required to tighten the 1/4-20 screw. Unlike D-rings, it has nothing to catch. Here are some measurements to help you find the right D-ring. Total Screw Length: 11.96mm Screw Shaft Length: 7.96mm Screw shank diameter (without thread): 3.94 mm. Projection of the screw over the plate: 5.52 mm. screw head diameter. : 14.96mm. Screw Head Depth: 3mm Total Thickness of Camera Mounting Plate: 5.36mm Depth of the bottom groove of the camera mounting plate: 2.31mm. Camera Mounting Plate Bottom Slot Width: 17.19mm Dimensions must be perfect. Or you can save a few dollars and take about a quarter with you. I rated this item 4 stars due to a defect caused by a bad painting technique that you can see in one of the photos. As another reviewer noted, the paint scratches easily. Anodizing instead of painting would be excellent but would greatly increase the cost of the product. Powder coating is durable but adds weight and cost. Although this item is innovative and well designed, I believe it could be cheaper than the $59.95 price tag. I bought it for $49.95 but I still feel like it could have been cheaper. It's great for hiking and travel where it's typically impractical to use or carry over-the-shoulder gear. Camera cages can function similarly with enough accessories, but they lack the flexibility offered by this article to easily convert them into a different shape.
