This is baby number 6 so I have some potty training experience sweatpants with "elastics" over them, diapers with regular underwear. I even had a kid who only "walked" when outside and could aim for a tree (thanks dad!). So I wanted to try this. I like the protection of the pull-ups, but felt they were too comfortable for my kids, and without that wet feeling, they'll probably be less diligent in using the potty. First, they are very reminiscent of old-school canvas sneakers. A bit thick, very soft, absorbent but still with a wet feeling in case of an accident. The extra PUL layer reminds me of newer cloth diaper covers and provides an extra layer of protection. It won't stand up to Niagra, but it will protect your carpet or floor from an accident the size of a creek or creek. My son liked the design, especially cars and construction vehicles. Stripes were acceptable to him, if less favorable. It really helped him get interested in wearing them. (As a child of the family, he's less keen on growing up and using the big boy potty.) My only complaint is that he has a bit of a hard time getting them out on his own. Not sure if there is a way out as obviously the leg holes need to be a little tight to prevent leakage. All in all I have no regrets and they certainly helped a lot in my transition to big boy underwear!
