First follow the instructions to clean with the sponge provided and then pass over the blade. It cut off a nice little strip of the wiper blade material but the wipers still drove like crazy so I turned the blade back on on 2nd setting and got another nice strip but the strips still stayed. The windshield is also very clean. Update: Wanted to try the device on my wife's car to see if it would pay for itself and my wife's wiper blades are too big to fit so cannot be used in this case. She has Rain X Latitude Blades.
