They are very dark but do the job. I took them for two reasons. Firstly, I don't have to roll up the windows every time I get out of the car during a delivery. It's a constant game. I never leave anything in the car for deliveries, but I don't feel comfortable leaving the windows open when someone has food in them. It's also nice to have the windows open so the wind doesn't go haywire when I have to hop onto the freeway. So I can wind down the rear window so I don't have to get upset. Another reason I bought them is so I can use my car when camping and take my cat on car trips (he loves car rides). To that end, I was looking for an insect screen rather than a window shade. Unfortunately, the airflow isn't that great. The double privacy layer keeps my cat in the car perfectly as long as the windows are open, but blocks a lot more wind and airflow than I was hoping for. Haven't tried camping yet so hopefully it won't be too stuffy. It's also very dark to see through the double layer, but I still see enough not to take them off while driving. I didn't notice much of a difference in interior temperature during the day when I parked my car with the windows open. I only have them on my rear window. I bought 2 sets, but they are only needed for permanent use. The second set is for camping only. I haven't attached the velcro to the door part of my car yet, but just holding them until I close the door seems fine. I don't use the back seat much, so most of the time those doors stay closed. If you have kids you definitely need them to keep the screens from jumping up when you open the door. I've had them for a few days now and so far they haven't been ripped, torn by the wind, or bugs or anything rough attached to them. Super simple and easy to use. They have a slightly preformed shape to match the shape of the car door. Almost perfect shape for my 08' Prius.
