I did my best for my niece and received a set of 217 items. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when there were no instructions in the box. Seriously, it's like trying to build a Lego set without instructions or part numbers. It took us hours to get together but my husband and I managed. I reached out to see if digital devices were available, but we moved on and gathered. I've read that the instructions are difficult to follow, so maybe I didn't miss much. The blocks in this set are quite large. I actually felt like they were a bit delicate and fell apart easily so I invested in Lego glue and it worked like a dream. The blocks are slightly larger, appearing to be the size of a Duplo, but the Lego glue worked great. To be honest there are several types of glue that are great for this. I just wanted something I could eventually take apart, although I don't expect that thing to ever break again. It actually took us several hours to put it together. I watched the video and went through all the photos to get ideas and put everything in place. The Lego glue helped a lot and it's not that hard to take apart if I make a mistake. I think it went much faster if we worked as a threesome. The kids had a lot of fun with the final assembly. My niece loves it and she almost has to hide with it because her brother and cousin want to play and race all the time. You find out which one pops up faster and try to have a competition with it. I have several similarly sized character balls and they handle the track well, although the ones that come with them are by far the best and made for it. Smaller ones can get too much zoom and jump off the track. It seemed a bit iffy before I started using glue. I was afraid some parts would break, especially when the kids got excited and touched them. When you get this I can't stress enough how great the glue was, but it's best to try and position the pieces in place before gluing. The smaller set looked like the simpler one, but it also seemed so boring, so I wanted to give the kids this larger set. It was a challenge because I didn't have a notebook and none of the blocks were labeled. The advantage is that they are bigger and it can be done! If you ever feel like you need to break this, I seriously recommend grabbing a sharpie and marking the base where your towers and blocks are so next time you don't have to guess or count. A very tedious task, but the end result was so good that I had to give it four stars - and indeed $36 is a good price for a set of 217 blocks.
