In my senior year, I had to type notes and post them on the class website for review. I had a problem. I'm very bad at taking notes and tend to get most of my knowledge from reading and face-to-face conversations with classmates and teachers. So I decided my only hope was to record the class so I could listen to things I missed during class. I did a little searching and this recorder seemed like the best for the money. I'm happy with my decision. The quality is perfect for the voice - I wouldn't copy a concert to it. In general, you should pay attention to the quality of the recording: Although you can hear noises that are further away, there is also noise when recording with the "Highly sensitive microphone" setting. My professor has a very deep, loud voice and the class is small. - about 600 square feet (about 56 square meters). You cannot digitally connect this device to a computer - you can only use the analog headphone output with the analog "microphone" input. Here are my results of recording some classes. I've always recorded with the "high sensitivity" setting because the "low sensitivity" setting just didn't work unless you were speaking very close to the mic. I've always recorded with the microphone and the device on my back on the table. Here are the results I got while recording lectures: * If the device is about 15-20 feet away from the professor, I can lecture during playback. Sometimes when the professor is speaking outside of class, the audio cuts out.* If the device is 3-5 meters away from the professor, I can hear the entire lecture during playback. Sometimes I had to rewind to catch a few words.* If the device is 5-10 feet from the professor, I can hear the entire lecture as it plays. I had no problem listening to every lecture. In all of the above cases, I could not hear the students' questions unless the students were sitting next to me. I hope this will help people make their decision to buy a digital voice recorder.
