Size 4/7 is a little big for a 5 year old wearing a size 6 or S for boys. There is enough extra material at the fingertips that you can pinch your fingertip with extra finger length material at the end, but they fit well enough to wear out of the box. I agree to the additional material so that we can make at least two winter things out of it. The gloves are black with gray details. They are waterproof and there is an adjustable strap with a wrist clip and another at the ends with a cord and switch to tighten to keep snow off the glove. There is a small functional zipped pocket on the back of the hand and I have absolutely no idea what and what it is for. Maybe you could put your child's name in the bag in case the gloves end up in the lost property office? There is a plastic clip to attach them together when storing so you can keep them together. The palm and fingertips are reinforced with a lightweight, textured, rubberized material. Hand wash separately in cold water, line dry. Overall I would recommend them.
