I bought the large size in grey. Yes, you have to remove the mattress to put it on the box spring. This is the hard part. Although it wasn't necessary, I washed and dried it first and there was no shrinkage. The material is amazing - smooth - not flimsy or fluffy like most bed skirts. It fits my spring box like a glove - clean with no wrinkles. When we brought my huge mattress back upstairs, it didn't shift because it was wrapped so securely around my (ugly) box spring. It's soft enough to be lifted to reach things I keep under the bed. If only I had invented this product! I will never buy any other kind again.
