Review on HMTECH 7" Raspberry Pi Monitor - Wall Mountable, Portable Gaming Monitor, PS4 Display, 60Hz HDMI by Victor Bogan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect monitor for a small project seems to lack HDCP

The monitor is everything I could have expected and almost everything I could have asked for. The display is, as you'd expect, bezel-less, which makes it great for incorporating into a project, but not great if you want a tiny TV to be just popped out of the box and viewed without a stand or bracket to hold it, which makes it great again, suitable for design work, but once again detracts from the immediate use experience that may be needed. Also, this is a monitor, not a TV, so don't expect a tuner or anything like that. This is a direct HDMI monitor with Micro USB for power and touch control. One of the quirks is that it's a 5-point (capacitive) touchmonitor that works with tap, drag, pinch, and other touch gestures just like a phone or laptop screen. I connected it to a Surface GO which has a much higher resolution. Main display resolution for initial testing and Windows 10 will automatically scale the display on this display, so in mirroring mode the main display will keep its original resolution while the display on this display is interpolated instead of downscaling the main display to a lower resolution of this display. With both switched to their native resolutions in enhanced mode, the display was nice and sharp for what it is. The panel is nice and bright thankfully, but I'd like to be able to dim it a bit as it's designed for low-light installations. Another reason could be the lack of HDCP support. This is a problem for anyone who wants to watch streaming video or Blu-ray content on screen. This display switched to an old-fashioned static image whenever an application was launched with HDCP content, so things like HBOMax and NETFLIX rendered the display unusable.
