I love Neewer. I have more of their gear than I care to admit. So I jumped at the opportunity to try it. Unfortunately, this particular product didn't make it into my book. I think my problems are related to the mismatch between expectations and reality and the general lack of perceived usefulness. The discrepancy is an error caused by repeated references to pan and tilt in the product description. . For some reason - and this is entirely my fault - I confused this with the fact that the device offers mechanical control of the pan and tilt axes. I say it's my fault because the title clearly says "1 axis". But that leads to my next problem. How useful is a device that only has one roll axis? Not so much for me. I really tried to find reasons why this is necessary; was actually looking for shots that I thought would outperform a standard selfie stick. I was able to get a clear, relatively steady shot of a raised ledge moving forward. It was about the size of a definite advantage over a standard selfie stick. Given what gimbals have become in recent years, calling it a gimbal is a misnomer. Yes, it has the potential to stabilize some shots, but gimbals - in the spirit of what we now think of as "gimbals" - do a lot more. The built-in image stabilization on the phones this device is compatible with provides enough image stabilization to allow this stabilizer to get the job done even with a remotely steady hand. I tried to see if there was a noticeable difference in camera stabilization and maintenance. horizontal/vertical plane when panning and found that some test shots actually had the roll axis corrected, which would mess up a shot that would otherwise have been good if shot handheld (these were messed up test shots, so no damage was done prepared). . In my personal opinion, the usefulness of this device is very small compared to a regular selfie stick. This is especially true - again in my opinion - when true 3-axis phone gimbals can be purchased for less than $100. hand then maaayyybe? However, I think it would be better to either buy a basic table tripod or selfie stick, or spend the extra cash on a legitimate 3-axis phone gimbal. I just don't see any justifiable benefit in this device.
