I bought several pairs. They are good for my feet. I want a wide, 8 1/2 with good support, not a high back that chafes my heel spurs and arthritis, and not a painful walk that irritates my aging bunions. This was a big issue when I ordered these a few years ago: would they flap around when I walked and cause even more problems with knee and foot pain (sorry if I offend anyone but I hate flip flops and I think it should they are prohibited from outdoor use). out of the shower!). In fact, on my first pair of these shoes, I cut holes and grommets backwards to tie them up like a ballerina's toes to keep them in place. But with the second pair, I either started walking better or the design changed a bit, and I didn't have to be so drastic. However, they are not designed for serious long-distance hiking for my feet. I can wear them all day for office work with lots of standing and routine errands, but for a walk of two miles or more, even with my lace-up technique, these shoes still have enough flip-flops to hurt my ankles and knees. So I'll have to look elsewhere for my hiking/training shoes. You look more casual than I'd like, but my legs are more important than style. They look better than the more expensive Birkenstocks (definitely too casual, expensive, and mostly sandal-like), and I've never tried on a Birkenstock that felt better out of the box than this one. I wear a shiny, elegant style with a suit. (Again, sorry if I've offended anyone, but they walk on my feet all day with no pain - and I wear orthotics that fit snugly once the padding is removed.) They're also a lot more expensive than I'd like, but my reasoning is the same - they're good for my feet. I read that the new version of this shoe is not as good as the previous one. I have a pair with a rough brown finish and a smooth brown finish that wear well - over two years for the smooth brown and four and a half years for the rough brown. I waited for the black ones to come out for about $80 and they came. They look even more casual than the Gust. You can find the Breeze version for $50/$60, although the men's version is getting harder and harder to find.) I just hope that the negative review I read is wrong and that this new black model is just as wrong to hold up like the old brown ones, and that the slight drop in price doesn't reflect a loss in quality. The separation of the top and bottom was criticized in the negative evaluation. My old couples are still going strong. If these hold up I will buy more if needed. If they don't last either, I'll be very disappointed that I'll have to look for good office shoes again.
