I have a Nikon D 3 that takes great pictures with the right lens. But it's heavy and bulky, and when I travel for pleasure I usually leave it behind. I've always been looking for a small pocket camera that takes good enough pictures and has a viewfinder. I tried two different Canon G-series cameras, which are definitely compact, but I found them very cumbersome to use. The viewfinder is too small. Understanding and reaching the controls was difficult compared to the D3. Then I bought a Nikon V2. The viewfinder is large enough to be acceptable and the controls are easy to find and you can quickly change most while looking through the viewfinder. In reasonable lighting conditions, the image quality is very good. Not quite on par with D3 and its glass, but V2 is 10 times cheaper. I haven't received an adapter yet to use the D3 lens with, but I'm curious to see how this will affect the image quality, especially the colors. As it stands, the image quality is much better than the D1X and arguably as good as the D2X in bright light. I've found that I wear the V2 a lot now. There's something very seductive about using it. I think Nikon is really up to something with these V2 miniature cameras and I was happy to see that they released the V3. When they release V4 I'll probably switch to it. I didn't give it five stars because it's not as good as myD3, which isn't a fair comparison.
