I've heard complaints about these types of devices and in fact most of them can be added to user error. In order to use a BALANCED device, you must first balance it properly and this requires some patience. Also, keep in mind that every time you change gear (change lenses, add or remove a mic, add or remove lights), you'll need to rebalance the setup all over again. First you need to correctly align the left/right position of your camera. Most cameras' tripod mount is centered on the lens axis, but that doesn't mean it's centered in weight distribution. Next - especially when changing lenses - you need to balance the front/back position of the mount so that the weight is evenly distributed over the grip you will be holding. Finally, you want to adjust the position of the counterweights to dampen the action of the pendulum during movement. That's why it makes sense to have several of these devices, each configured for each camera + lens + microphone + lamp. Then all you have to do is move the camera to the pre-balanced gimbal when you need to change gears. I've uploaded some photos to better show the features.
