Review on Lifetime 60298 Outdoor Storage Gallon by Joe Garczynski

Sturdy and easy to assemble

If I run into problems I will update but I was so excited to finally get a solid deck box that I wanted to check out. We've had a skinny box for years that fell apart and leaked like crazy and I paid a little less than this one and just looking tells me this one is much more durable. Girls, get your tools. I assembled it myself in an hour and it took so long because I needed to brush up on how to use a socket wrench 😬 I used a socket wrench (3 sizes are listed in the instructions), a flathead electric screwdriver, pliers and a hammer and a BIG NAIL. When assembling the sides, once you've inserted them and snapped them into place, make sure they're all centered on the bottom panel, lower down and take a good look at where the 2 end panels sit. Both sides did not fully engage. (although I thought they were) and it took me more brute force for them to do it. The lid was the hardest part - you'll need a nail here. There are no pre-drilled holes for the metal rail. I stuck a nail in first because my hands couldn't get through the thick resin with a wrench. As for the hinges, it's easier if you place the cover vertically against the sofa for some leverage. The molded inside of the lid didn't take into account the depth of the head of my socket wrench, which has an adapter on the back making it wider than normal. I used a nail again, twisted it a couple of times with pliers, after that I was able to use a socket wrench. When attaching the cover, make a screw on each side to keep it attached, otherwise the opposite side will slide off if you try to finish the entire side first. I had to use an electric screwdriver to enlarge the pre-drilled hole that the nut (and bolt) goes in. Again, the molding doesn't leave much room to get a socket wrench to wrap the bolt, but using a wrench I was able to secure it. This box is so strong and I know it will perform much better than my old one. one.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model
