I waited until a week later, I'm a soldier and I'm up all day. I still have to wear my regular socks for warmth but gosh these socks have helped with foot pain and just plain tired feet. No fancy tight spots, just gradual compression from knee to toe. Plus, there's no freaking smell! Can't complain about that after wearing them for 36 hours. Washes well, does not fade, stretch or shrink. They're not warm, so don't expect to run errands in flip flops and compression stockings in the middle of winter, a terrible idea.
