It's too bright to be used as a night light in its default settings. The only way to drastically reduce the light is with the remote control. We didn't order the view with the remote BUT it was included! Before bed we set it to the lowest brightness and change the color to pink (my daughter's preference and it's not as bright as blue and plain white). It worked pretty well for sleep. As for looks, it's amazing. my daughter loves it The silicone is really thin and much more brittle than I thought. It's almost like a big balloon. You can really feel "empty space" when you touch it.
