I have used previous versions of the Asics Gel Resolution range and have found these shoes to be extremely stable and durable. They tended to be quite narrow, but once stretched they always became a glove that fit my relatively narrow feet. for me to wear (no change). I have very high arches and the Gel Resolution has a new "arch wrap" feature where there is a strip of mesh/plastic that runs up and down from either side of the sole (where it's a few inches wide). Feet where there is a narrow, accent colored and stiff 'lace' holding the two halves of the band together. This strip does not stretch in any way and has a fixed maximum circumference. If you have wider feet or a high arch, it digs into the top of your foot. You may not even be able to put on shoes. But since I love this line of shoes so much and don't want to bring them back, I decided to cut out this band entirely, starting where it ties into the sole. This worked great because after doing this I could see that the Resolution 8's toe box was actually wider than previous versions, the shoe fit very comfortably and the pain and compression in the top of my foot from the unusual "stripe" was relieving " were less . So if you want to change your shoes or if you have a low arch and narrow foot and the 'stripe' doesn't bother you, these are great shoes. After my "surgical" modification :-) I would give this shoe a 5. Asics should either abandon this failed experiment with a new feature that I haven't seen in any other shoe, or make the "tape" adjustable by incorporating the lacing mechanism without a hard stop around the circumference so that people with high arches can also wear shoes be able.
