Some skin problems healed, but not all; it filters chloramine and we love it!

A few months after moving into our home we noticed a problem with chloramine when my husband developed itchy skin and contact dermatitis. Also, I could smell the chemical as the water boiled, which prompted us to purchase a Big Berkey for the kitchen. After doing some research, we decided this was our best option for a bathroom until we could afford an entire house filtration system. When we first moved in we couldn't even afford the price of it so we lived with chloramine for almost 8 months before we got it. What made us finally buy it was a late pregnancy rash called PUPPP (PEP in the UK) which covered me in itchy blisters (occurs in 1 in 200 pregnancies). I have tried every rash remedy except steroids and nothing has worked. I ended up asking my husband to get me this to try and help with the rash and also because I don't want to bathe my baby in chloramine after birth. Please note that the rash has not gone away, but it is also a deep hormonal problem without treatment, but the birth of a child. What the Sonaki filter REALLY did for me was it allowed my skin to heal where the rash was no longer active. I had huge gashes from scratches while sleeping and they did NOT heal for over a month. They continued to open and bleed even though the active part of the rash had spread to other parts of my body. The sores showed no sign of healing but within two days of installing this shower filter they had closed and now a week and two days after installing I only have three scabs left. As for my skin else I will try to remember to update this review after I have my baby and PUPPP is gone because my skin is still itchy like eff but that is not the filter's fault. Aside from allowing my skin to heal itself, the benefit I love about this filter is that my bathroom no longer smells like chloramine. Some days after showering it smelled all day and I kept the door tightly shut and the bathroom window wide open to keep the smell from entering the house. We didn't test the water but I know this system filters out that crap because the bathroom doesn't smell at all even when there's a lot of steam in the air. Remember this is coming from a pregnant woman; I don't need to test the water because if the chloramine was still there I would smell it. :) Thanks Sonaki! NOW I know from some people who reviewed this product that it didn't work at all and I'm really sorry for you! Every city water system is unique, so it's a shame if it doesn't work for you. But my next thought is for those who have found it REALLY working but are complaining about the speed and cost of replacing the filter cartridge. At the rate we are using where I shower up to 4 times a day (due to a rash) and my husband showers once a day, it looks like our filter will last 3 weeks before needing to be replaced. . It sucks, but if I go back to being a normal person and only shower once a day, I'll have at least a month. I know that 3-4 week replacement period is really annoying for some people, but look at it this way: The cost for a pack of 5 replacement filters is $35. Let's say you get a month from a cartridge, so 5 months of filtration: $35 / 5 = $7. So that's $7 a month for non-chloramine water. How many times a month do you go to Starbucks? Tacobell? movies? Should I make ONE trip to Starbucks a month for chloramine filtration? These types of shower heads and filtration systems are so-called CONSUMABLES like toilet paper and shampoo. They need to be refilled regularly. It's not an INSTALLATION like microwaves and toasters that last for years. You can compare the difference between an installment plan and a computer consumable. My computer under warranty replaced my hard drive when it failed but did not replace my battery which it considered expendable. That's part of life; part of adulthood. I had a hard time learning this lesson when my computer battery died, but this situation gave me an idea of the difference between consumables and installment payments. So until you can afford a whole house filtration system (rather in installments), if that works for you, $7 a month isn't a very reasonable price to get rid of chloramine. And a little note for those who found their camera. Doesn't expire: If you have a tub/shower combo, you'll need to put it back into bath mode when you turn off the shower. This will release the water pressure from the shower head (you still need to turn the chamber upside down). Sorry for those of you who just took a shower. I hope this review helps at least one person; As I said, I will try and remember to renew it once my skin is back to normal. And thank you Sonaki for this useful product!
