Perfect! It's easy for my 8 year old to use, it's adorable and small enough to fit in a small pencil case without causing any problems. I like that the teeth move up and down when the pencil is properly inserted and twisted (for sharpening). If the teeth aren't moving, the pencil won't be sharpened and is a great way to teach all children. I like it so much I'll be ordering a few more to give away (and definitely one for myself :) ). Ouch! A big plus, cleaning is very easy! You can see how many shavings are in this little creature's back and you just open it, let go, snap it open and voila!
