In reply to this article: Q: Can I use this for the Cisco Serial Console with a laptop? Answer: Yes, compatible. You can not. I've tried the cable on two different Windows 10 machines and no console prompt is received from the Cisco SG300-52P switch. I can access the web interface on the switch but not the console. I downloaded the latest drivers from Prolific, the driver checker recognizes the PL2303RA chipset on COM4. I installed putty for 115200, 8, 1, no, no as suggested. Opening a connection on COM4 doesn't throw an error, it opens a terminal, I get a cursor, I press enter to wake up the console and nothing happens. I waited 10 minutes. I believe this cable should work (considering the seller's question/answer above) and it probably does, but can someone give me a magic spell to do it that way? I promise to revise my review if you can make it work. Otherwise this is a good cable; It's well built, has the right shade of black and all the connections fit into the right sockets. A tiny CD is pretty much useless these days as no computer I use has a CD drive installed, but being able to download drivers from the internet is really better anyway. Thanks very much! Well I can give a 1 star rating. The seller's great response to me was to ask Cisco for more help. Thanks very much! No, the answer was to buy a small built-in db9 model zero adapter and add it in front of the Cisco console.
