So far I've only experienced popcorn with air in a special microwave bowl. It worked fine, but it was plastic and we're trying to use less plastic in the microwave. That's why we decided to give it a try. The good thing I can say about it is that it pops cores very quickly. But that aside, I have to say that I prefer my microwave for the following reasons: 1. It doesn't work very well unless you hold it at an angle with the hole pointing down toward the bowl. If it is not tilted, the cores in the machine will somehow "hang” and burn out. Then it is difficult to clean the burnt pieces. We tried a different number of cores and the result was the same without tipping it. It works best/least slow if you put half the number of cores recommended in the manual, which brings me to my next point. It appears very quickly, but you can't do much at once. We had to run it about 4 times as we had to do half the scoop to get the machine to work properly without jamming. It just takes a little longer than the microwave popcorn as the kernels come out very quickly, but it's a lot more of a hassle as you have to do something to keep it going as opposed to a microwave which you just run until she is finished .3. I didn't like the texture of the popcorn. It's WAY chewy than any other popcorn I've had. I really don't know why. Very different from light and fluffy microwave popcorn. That's my personal preference, maybe some people would prefer this chewy texture, which I really don't know. My husband and I didn't care. All of these reasons combine to make this a device we don't think we'll be using again. We tried it a few nights in a row to see if we could somehow improve the results, but we just weren't happy with it. I still give it 3 stars because technically it works and that you like a specific popcorn texture is our own subjective opinion that others may not agree with.
