Review on πŸ”¦ LUMINTOP TOOL AA 2.0 EDC Flashlight - Compact Keychain Torch, 650 Lumens Brightness, 5 Modes, Waterproof IP68 - Ideal for Camping, Hiking & Emergencies by Joseph Hall

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good light, flat surfaces unusable

Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 Emitter: Cree XP-L HD LEDMax. Output: 650 lumens Color temperature: 6500K cool white β€’ 5 modes: Low, Medium, High, Turbo, Strobe β€’ Turbo mode: Indicators show different times depending on the battery used. The manual doesn't say if there's a time delay, so you'll have to assume it's fully enabled until the battery dies. β€’ Strobe: When the light is on, 6 half presses puts it into strobe mode (not sure if it's pro or con). Blinky modes are mixed in terms of their usefulness, the extra steps to get there with this light won't make you accidentally turn that mode on. If you like the light strobing quickly, this isn't for you. A quick double tap would be easier, 6 taps is too many. β€’ Mode memory: The device memorizes the last output level (without flash) two seconds after turning off the light. β€’ Lighting operation: click or rotate backwards. : Low 16 lm, Mid 85 lm, High 360 lm, Turbo 650 lm β€’ Alkaline: Low 3.7 lm, Mid 28 lm, High 140 lm, Turbo 220 lm β€’ NiMH: Low 3.7 lm, Mid 28 lm, High 140 lumens, Turbo 270 lumens Runtime: β€’ 14500: Low 37 hours, Medium 6 hours 9 minutes, High 79 minutes, Turbo 33 minutes β€’ Alkaline: Low 60 hours, Medium 11 hours 50 minutes, High 49 minutes, Turbo 21 minutes β€’ NiMH : Low 60 hours , Medium 12 hours 30 minutes, High 2 hours 33 minutes, Turbo 43 minutes Max. 5g (without battery) Operating voltage: 0.8-4.2V Battery: AA/14500 Li-ion (top button) 2 O-rings4) Carrying strap (black)5) User manual6) **No warranty card** (as advertised), ad says warranty card included ded, user manual says warranty voucher included. Didn't get any, no big deal. What's not included: 1) Storage box (included with the original AA tool) 2) Magnetic end cap (included with the original AA tool) Advantages 1) Slightly shorter than the original Lumintop AA tool by about 2mm2) The strap is now black, the purple was supplied with the original Lumintop Tool AA (of course I'd like to know why) 3) The device remembers the last output level (no flash) two seconds after the light is turned off. The original AA instrument has no mode memory, always starts in low mode and only has 3 light levels (low, medium, high), no turbo, no flashing. Cons 1) 14500 Flat Top will NOT work. There is a ring around the connection point in the head to prevent contact with the flat top. See photo. The easiest way to get around this is to put a dab of solder inside the ring so the flat top is in contact. Another option would be to remove or archive it. I don't understand these sellers, anyone who sells a lithium ion flashlight knows if a flat cap or button cap is required, but nowhere in the ad is this mentioned. Important information in the world of lithium-ion flashlights. The body of the original Lumintop Tool AA is identical to that of the 2.0. If you have a spare original head it will fit and work flat. However, you lose turbo, strobe and memory. It just becomes the original AA tool. If you don't have 14500 with keys, this is an additional charge for you. If you have them or just want to use primary or NiMH batteries, you're good to go. 2) Carrying case and lid with magnet tail are no longer available. The device is packed in a cardboard box with a foam insert. To hide the price increase, the manufacturer decided to reduce the size by doing away with the carrying case and magnetic back cover. I understand that everyone has to make money, but that's a shame. You can control the light with the tail click button, this is a backward click. If you prefer, it can also be controlled by turning its head or tail. Tail-click operation is much easier as it can be performed with one hand even when wearing gloves. I returned it, but for me it was a deal breaker that the ad didn't mention that the flat-top lithium-ion battery was unusable. They should have mentioned this design change and explained why. I have the original Tool AA and when 2.0 showed up at a lightning sale I bought it. If it had been announced in advance that flat tops would no longer be supported, the buyer would have made an informed decision here and now. I expected to be able to use the ones I already have and not have to spend more to get them working. I use a lithium ion battery for superior performance which is why I bought this flashlight. The fit and finish is excellent, a great flashlight for EDC. Added extra easy mode, Turbo. Instead of a strobe I would like a stutter mode instead, the strobe is overrated. Why not 5 stars1. There is no mention of what type of lithium-ion battery the light will accept. This leads the buyer to believe that any type is suitable. Those who want to use Li-Ion and only have flat tips, get ready to break out of your wallet or get out your soldering iron.2. Bad choice of flash activation, it takes six clicks, two is enough and much easier.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen
