I wore out my original pillow in 2003 and ordered a replacement pillow in 2006-2007 (same). I then wore it out and tried to buy a third one in 2011 only to find it had been altered. This is superior to all others I've tried in the following respects. The motor is a powerful AC motor. Work hard and push HARD. There is no such thing as silent operation, it makes mechanical noises as if it works and it is. My pain hurts when it passes and then slowly fades away. (after 10-15 minutes) New models do not press hard. You might like a gentle massage, but if you do, have someone massage you with their fingertips. It's like a strong arm champion digging into my aching muscles and "teaching" them beforehand who BOSS2 is. NO heat. I have never used heat since I started using it in 2003. My muscles are already hot and sore. More heat? Why put it in your pillow when you can get a heat lamp or something to get you where you want to go? It's just another accessory that adds value, not help. In truth, after a while the motor gets hot and the heat from the motor works fine. In fact, sometimes I stop it and let it cool because it gets "too hot" for me3. The switch is on the SIDE OF THE UNIT AND IT IS HARD TO ACCIDENTALLY TURN IT OFF! New units have an on/off button right next to the massage heads and I have turned my new one off at least 1 or 2 times each time. I use this. I move to massage in the right place and suddenly. It is turned off. DAMN. AGAIN? In my opinion this is a real design flaw and one of the MAIN REASONs why I will never buy a (new) model again. I want the button to be on the side and hard to touch so I can easily turn it on and off without accidentally turning it on and off. 4. The cost is MUCH LESS. I paid $30 when I bought this unit and the last time I bought a new style I paid $50. Truth? $50 for one that barely works, keeps shutting down and having to restart and I have to rearrange it every time. No thank you. I bought a spare of this and 2 days after purchase the price had increased by $2. I appreciate this device and recommend it instead of the regular Shaitsu pillow.
