Many aspects of this $170 toy box are disappointing. For the money I expected much more than was delivered. First, there weren't enough screws right out of the box. I know the missing screws don't speak volumes, but I'm not done yet so stay tuned. I was able to quickly complete the building process down to the last large screw. For some reason the pre-drilled hole in the wood was drilled too big and the screw wouldn't go in and hold. I tried sticking some toothpicks in the hole and re-tightening the screw, but found that this toy box wasn't made of solid wood but rather pressed sawdust. So no matter what I tried to do, the screw wouldn't hold; the cardboard continued to crumble. This leads me to my greatest disappointment when paying so much for a toy box; it should be solid wood, not cheap pressboard. However, I went further and figured out what I could do if just one screw was missing. Then I went ahead and tried to attach the hinges. I was able to find a screw to replace the one that never arrived and attach the hinges. They are spring-loaded, so nobody can close the lid with their fingers. The problem with these hinges is that they don't let the lid close at all. The lid sits about an inch from fully closing and only bounces on its hinges. So the ajar lid looks very tasteless; especially for such a high quality piece of furniture. My general opinion on this toy box is that it is overpriced even if everything works properly. For the price, the wood and materials should be top-notch, no crumbly pressed cardboard that falls apart trying to screw screws in, and lousy spring-loaded hinges that won't close fully. I assume wood and hydraulic hinges are sold. My advice is to stay away from that toy box and find something else that isn't that expensive and doesn't live up to expectations.
