I used mine for night owl cameras. Brilliant black. And a reflection from the bottom of the 1 inch wide white border that extends to the bottom of the hood. In both cases I painted the underside white and black with "FLAT BLACK". In addition to the halo, changes to the infrared LED motion detector caused it to REPORT MOTION ALERT. And it then enabled recording videos on the hard drive of the NVR 2T. The result was a huge amount of data that was captured and filled my hard drive. Also means that finding a meaningful move is very time consuming/inefficient. . This is a simple/inexpensive solution that a manufacturer should incorporate into their manufacturing process.
