I have no idea about the app - after the first day with them and I couldn't connect them I just dropped them and found what I needed without the app. I can do everything by hand and it's not hard at all. Big trick: You can press the K-Temp bar like a button and it switches to the LED color wheel! Click it again to return to your warm/cold lighting scale. However, I do not consider the application necessary. They had better tripods, but small tripods are fine for the price. If you're doing more serious work, you'll need larger tripods or lots of tape. They are very bright even in the darkest conditions. Both together can illuminate a lot of space! They also come with diffusers, which is very nice. I'd say the battery life is average, I'd definitely turn it off if you're not going to be shooting for a while to save if you have a long day or consider buying backup batteries.
