I leave 5 for the best and it will be the best DSLR. My 4 stars mean the best kind and this is the best of the compacts. I have a Canon L-Glass DSLR and compact cameras from Fuji, Sony, Kodak and Canon. So far this is the best compact. Large image size to work with, and image quality is excellent for the pixel density. Elegant black, beveled body. The build quality is excellent. LCD fingerprint magnet, but everyone has them. Some reviews say the video is great, others say it's not great. My results have been excellent. Due to the palm size and short lens-sensor axis, this little camera is more stable than my dedicated HD camcorder with image stabilization. Flash works best for fill or backlight scenes. The 780's high ISO makes for great indoor shots in the available light, so why use a flash? I get annoyed with people who don't turn off the flash and then complain when the bright areas are overexposed. Ignore reviews that say the optical viewfinder is "useless". The optical viewfinder is one of the best features of this camera and is very rare on compact cameras these days. While the LCD is great, the viewfinder lets you hold the camera up to your face discreetly. The viewfinder helps you when bright sunlight blurs the LCD. You can also turn off the LCD to significantly extend battery life. Before buying this camera I looked at Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus and other Canons. Although the 780 has been out for over a year, at Revain's current price point, including the memory card offering, there's still nothing in the compact class that can match it. I bought a second 780 as a gift.
