The only downside is that you think you need more than you really need. This works much better when you buy splints that really strengthen your teeth. I wear correction mouthguards so that I have a mouthguard that fits exactly. Instead of putting the bleach directly into the tray, try putting it on a toothpick and applying a very small amount to each tooth in the tray. If you don't have a tray that fits your teeth, use a toothbrush and simply run it over the tray. If you don't use a toothpick and just squirt into the bowl, you'll only get three to four uses. After one tube (or one use) I noticed a huge improvement. Depending on the whiteness you want, you may need two tubes. I've brought tubes of other bleaches from the dentist and then found them online for 1/5 the price which is great because it only takes 15 minutes instead of an hour or night. I would definitely recommend it. Don't forget to use rinse aid when you're done.
