I have bought them several times for my kids. I assume they can't hear anything when using it, I have to yell to get their attention. I tell them to turn the volume down if it's too loud if they can't hear me. Overall a great purchase and you won't be disappointed especially if you are buying for elementary school children. My son is 20 years old and uses them too.
