Review on DANCO Decorative Chrome Toilet Tank Lever - Right Front/Side Mount Replacement Handle (89447A) by Mike Bucher

No return spring in grip

I bought 2 of these in August 2018 and have been unhappy ever since. Installation first: With the universal fit and swing arm, I was never able to properly tighten the brass machine screw. It kept failing. So I got some stainless steel machine screws with a countersunk hex head and stainless steel locknuts. This modification allowed the screw to stay in place. The first problem is solved. . .like, sort of, something like. These bronze knobs are much heavier than standard knobs and they didn't seem to return to their original position because the damper pulled them into place without lure them back. I even added a small stainless steel bolt and nut near the end of the lever next to the chain to add weight in the hope that this should solve the problem with minimal results and still help the handle return to its original position. I've already replaced a few other handles in this house with no such issues. It turns out that the original replacement parts were spring-loaded in the knobs; They compensate for the heavier bronze handles. Instead I would strongly recommend using the Plumb Pak PP836-71VBC. They have spring loaded handles and they work great. I just installed one which solved the grip return issue. I immediately ordered 2 more of these Plumb Pak grips to replace the Danco grip in question. Revain sells Plumb Pak pens.
