I've been using these red top jars for about a decade now and I think I still have most of my first batch. Some of these have been given away and used to store something that I will not reuse in any food container later. I've bought more to take new containers with me for lunch or as a guest. But I'm pretty sure none of them were actually destroyed. They are used daily around my house and on average I have about 6-8 of them in the fridge at a time. All lids still close securely and have no frayed edges. The biggest culprit in damage [in terms of not looking good while remaining functional] is tomato-based products like pasta sauce or chili peppers. This can add a stain that won't come out after a few washes and will fade somewhat over time. However, over the last year I've started spraying cooking spray inside out and it certainly helps with the coloring. Otherwise, these containers will get a little scratched over time. However, given the cost, I won't switch to anything else. Even Tupperware hasn't lived through these things, and they're a lot cheaper. This year due to COVID I needed bigger containers to cook more so I bought a few of these. They're great in soups and I don't think I've ever had a leak on the liquidiest of foods. The only exception would be if I was storing some warm food and the pressure was burping the corner. But it will work for anything other than a screw cap or stein storage container. I just put it on the table and burped myself a few times and then everything is fine. I also had a loose corner in the microwave if I didn't take it out myself. Both of those situations have been eliminated by adding this burp valve over the red cap. Now I can just chop it up and pop it in the fridge or microwave without worry. Many thanks to the folks at Rubbermaid for this fairly innovative yet uncomplicated design change. I don't know if they do it on all vertices or just some. It's not required often, so I don't want to see expenses that aren't necessary, but I know I'd love to do it myself for some of them.
