Review on πŸ”Š iHome iW3 AirPlay Wireless Audio System - Black OPEN BOX (Rechargeable) by Catherine Schwarzer

Revainrating 3 out of 5

You have to select the Wi-Fi connection manually

I changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. My first complaint was that this device stopped working properly from time to time due to a connection issue. Last week I connected my iPhone to the device with a USB cable. Then I start the iHome app and set up the device's WiFi connection manually. That is, use the iPhone app to manually select the Wi-Fi connection and enter the password. Then it worked perfectly. But a few days later the problem reappeared. So I did the manual setup of the network connection again. It worked again. It looks like this device needs to set up a network connection manually in order to "refresh" it from time to time. This is still unsatisfactory and not convenient. But at least I have a way to "fix" the problem. ========================= This device is unreliable. Airplay speakers for my iMac for about 4 months. From time to time it randomly stops making sound. It is in a place with an excellent WiFi signal. So connecting to WiFi shouldn't be a problem. When the audio stopped playing, I checked the list of audio output devices in iMac System Preferences. It was on the list. This would mean that the iW3 was still connected to the Wi-Fi network and therefore the iMac was recognized. In this case, I would keep my network usage to a minimum to ensure there isn't excessive network traffic. I have to power cycle the iW3 to get it working again. Using iW3 is quite annoying. I wouldn't recommend the iW3 to anyone (Also there is a significant lag when playing music via airplay on the iW3. But that's fine with me)

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
