These FRC style mini radios are still in sight. The man in front of the 46-foot boat, with his back to me and my walkie-talkie, and we couldn't get here through those walkie-talkies. If worn with a headset on a belt, it could possibly be better. You have to press the button to talk and I don't see an option for VOX headphones. Still a very good radio but I'm still looking for a practical use on my sailboat.
