There is no edge on the bed frame to prevent the mattress from slipping off. I had to screw a piece of white (suitable) board an inch above the bed platform frame to keep the mattress from rocking side to side. The bed is decent for its price but cheap metal. The included hex key began to loosen towards the end of use. I have ordered a similar bed from another company for another daughter and it is of better quality for the same price and the mattress, although without a ledge, is non-slip. Appears to be a paint job. The white bed above is glossy and smooth while the black bed is matte. For my 10 year old daughter, apart from the issue with the ice skating mattress, the bed is fine and working. I put a star to draw your attention to this issue.
