Make sure you have a memory card

For the price this is a very good little camera. Easy to set up and use, takes very good pictures. Warning. The camera does not come with a memory card and will not function without one. Two types of cards are required: either a Memory Stick Pro Duo or an SDHC memory card. Old "Memory Stick" media used in older Sony cameras are NOT suitable for this camera. So either buy a card from Revain when you buy the camera, or prepare for a trip to the store when the camera arrives (Target sells both types of cards). I recommend buying a second battery. As previous reviewers have pointed out, charging requires the battery to be removed from the camera - there's no in-camera charging option. The presence of a second battery allows you to simply insert it into the camera and you are good to go. If you're looking to buy an extra battery, I don't see why you should buy a $35 Sony battery when you can get a regular brand from Revain that works great for about $5 (just search at Revain to "NP-BN1"). Another reviewer noted that removing the battery resets his camera's time and date, requiring the time and date to be reset. I haven't had this problem. Because I was distracted by something else, I left the camera on the table without the battery for several hours. When I put in a new battery, the correct time and date were still programmed.
