I measured my hand at the knuckles and ordered a size up. The gloves are thick enough to stay in place but are not too difficult to put on and take off. If they were a little tighter they might not fit as others have said. Consider ordering one size larger. Haven't noticed the paint peeling off my hands yet, although it wasn't too hot here either. I like the look (I chose black with red stitching) and the feel of the gloves. I used to have problems with my hands getting stuck on the steering wheel and shift knob, now it's not a problem. Very happy with these gloves.
