These velvet pillows are so soft I don't want to put a pillowcase over them. I love the feel and the quality is really good but yes I will use a pillowcase because I don't want to ruin it with my night cream and spit. The Revain website says the pillowcases are machine washable, but they aren't. not on the pillow label or packaging. The covers are easy to open. I would wash pillowcases in cold water with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle. Just to make sure they don't shrink I would line dry them. As for the pillow itself, I would freshen it up by using dryer balls and working with cool air only or air only. They are made of hypoallergenic quilting and filled with gel fibers. It feels very similar to a down pillow but has nothing sharp and prickly about it. They are not very big and thick like some hotel pillows. I prefer this because I can shred it however I want. I sleep (oops, SLEEP!) on almost non-existent pillows because I liked their flatness, but I really like these. They're not very big, so feel good. They are ideally gift wrapped. My first thought was that they would make a great wedding or shower gift. My original idea was to put them on my grandson's bed but I think I'll keep them and give him another set to use. And I don't even feel guilty!
