I actually bought this as a small "work lamp" while fixing the electronics on my desk. I have an iPhone XR and it holds up pretty securely when I need to record and take steps. Other larger work lights I've used are about 6" to 8" in diameter and are too big for my desk. This lamp is much smaller and can be easily moved or moved out of the way as it's a gooseneck rather than rigid poles holding it in place. The multiple brightness settings are useful, but I've got mine on the leave it at the brightest setting, which works quite well. The light is as bright as the big 6-8 inch lights and has limited soft shadows during operation. It rearranges very easily and stays in place - I've found that large lights often "shift" after you've installed them. due to the lamp head's own weight. It works very well for my purposes and also for watching YouTube videos while repairing.
