After years of using the G2 and G3 systems I was lured by numerous damaged antennas and just random interference issues. AVX on paper seems to solve everything from a hardware point of view what do you think. All my sound equipment is Sennhesier, microphones, headphones etc. for many years. I'm definitely a fan, but I didn't like AVX. Cons: 1. The blue antenna cover on the receiver is loose and rattles, I had to use tape to secure it properly.2. Delay. Audio latency is 18-19ms compared to G2 or G3, which is almost real time. So when I used AVX in combination with G2 or G3 recordings, all audio from the AVX was delayed and echoing, which means I have to correct the audio after each recording. It broke the deal for me. It almost forces you to switch everything over the air to AVX, which is a big problem, or keep the audio in sync when editing. (Returned for this reason) 3. Receiver battery life is poor, I could barely last 2-3 hours, and when it gets hot outside or used in the heat, it was worse. The battery is only 430 mAh and of course the parts cost a ridiculous $50 each. The battery pack is good. (You need an extended battery and it fits easily)4. Auto gain works most of the time, but isn't optimal in noisy environments. I was shooting in an open-wheeled sports car, when you stop you can hear the voice artificially increasing, and when the car moves you can hear the gain drop. This is not noticeable in a quiet environment during a conversation. But motion amplification is present at louder settings.5. Where is the manual sensitivity setting? Come on.6. The pivoting design of the receiver is a potential point of failure, and it also moves too easily, which can cause connectivity issues.7. Microphone clip for ME2 - junk, plastic broke on first use, what's wrong with metal spring clips? Advantages: 1. The assembly is of high quality and durable. The bodypacks are much better than the G2/G3.2 because of the antenna design. The small receiver is a blessing and a curse at the same time, it fits on your recorders, cameras etc. without taking up space and cables if you use XLR.3. Interchangeable lithium-ion body and lithium-poly receiver.4. Zero audio loss, clean connection5. Stupid simple setup and sync6. Sennhesier build quality (mostly) Verdict: If you're only going to use the system in controlled, quiet interview environments, it'll work just fine. Battery life, latency, and improved features are deal-breakers.
