This bag looks neat, the 'expandable' part doesn't add much volume but it helped me pack my raincoat with all my other camping gear Hiking accommodate daylight hours. Unfortunately, waxed canvas is not exactly waterproof. I got caught in the rain, walked under it for about an hour, and the water seeped through the seams in the bag and ruined the book I was carrying. The waxed canvas also repels only light rain and splashes. After some time it reaches its saturation point and becomes completely permeable. I suggest applying a waterproofing spray if you want to achieve actual waterproofing. EDIT as of July 2018: The zip hung and broke after about a year of accidental use. I'm disappointed because it was a luxury bag while it lasted.
