Review on Perch CMS by Devin Henry

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Perch is a simple, yet powerful tool for creating websites.

The interface is intuitive and easy to use. Features like RSS feeds are pretty much standard these days, but Perch adds some great features to make site creation faster and easier. The ability to easily customize pages and post content makes the experience even better. Perch also provides built-in integration with popular social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.) Overall, if you're looking for a quick way to create a web page, then Perch is definitely worth checking out. I'm a solo developer who needed something lightweight enough to manage my own personal website. I didn't want anything too complicated or expensive so I chose Perch as it was free, open source software. After creating my first test blog entry using the online editor, I knew this would do exactly what I wanted and more!

Pros
  • No technical know how required!
  • The community is also very active and responsive.
  • Built-In Content Management System - I can edit my own posts directly from the browser without having to go through another application like WordPress, TypePad or Drupal.
Cons
  • If you are a beginner, you might consider trying a simpler solution first.
  • Not Well Documented - In order to figure out how to build an app with Perch, one must understand Ruby On Rails basics.
